Mental Snacking

The idea of mental snacking is analogous to snacking between meals, where you keep eating junk food or even small quantities of nutritious food every couple of minutes. The recommendation is to eat during your meals and avoid constantly putting something in your stomach. I think about all this and how it applies to information consumption; we definitely consume way too much information every single minute. We don’t digest that information don’t take any time to reflect on what we just read or listened to. I feel like I need to start applying the same discipline to my information diet: to consume denser pieces of information (books preferred over articles) and also reflect on what I have been reading, not just move on to the next piece of information. This also means you pick long-form content like movies and books, which leave a lasting mental impression on you, just like when you have a chicken biryani and feel full for 5 hours. Scrolling YouTube shorts or LinkedIn doesn’t leave any lasting impression on your mind; you are just hungry for even more (empty calories)
